2011 Battle of the Badges
The Galveston Island Battle of the Badges is a joint effort between the Galveston Police Department, the Galveston Fire Department and the Galveston County Sherriff’s Office. This year we are again joined by members of the Galveston Port Police and Galveston Beach Patrol. We are also welcoming the participation of the Texas City Police Department, the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, Precinct 3 Constable’s Office, D.E.A., Houston Police Department, City of Galveston Code Enforcement, and the University of Texas Medical Branch Police Department.
This event is modeled after a similar event held every year in Monroe, Louisiana. Our first annual Battle event far exceeded our expectations. After much planning and organizing it was determined that a seating plan of 1,600 would likely accommodate the size of the crowd that was expected to be in attendance. It is estimated that over 2,200 attended the 2009 event. We expected that the 2010 event would draw twice as many spectators and prepared by setting up a seating plan for 4,100 spectators. We were proven right after preliminary estimates showed the crowd for the 2010 event to be approximately 4,500 strong.
Everybody involved has worked extremely hard to make this event a success but none have worked harder than Officer Lewis Jackson and Firefighter James Williams. They have spent many hours of their personal time making preparations to insure that every detail is covered. We hope you enjoy the show. We are confident that you will walk away knowing you have attended a first class event.
